Renovation update

Despite my terrible head cold I spent the morning painting baseboards.  After 9 months we are finally getting around to fixing a lot of things that didn't go so great the first time around.  Our friend spent the last two days pulling up the hardwood flooring in the upstairs hallway, where there was an annoying lump in the subfloor that made the wood pop up.  He had to scrape down the cement, then put the flooring back.  He numbered the planks to make it easier-great idea!

Today he is readjusting all the door frames that were poorly installed, and then he will put in the baseboards.

High on the priority list right now:

A new kitchen sink
New countertop
New faucet

When we bought our kitchen cupboards from ebay, it came with everything - but we were really only interested in the cabinets.  The other things we have been using to tide us over until we could get around to it.  A tile countertop is charming, but really hard to keep clean and the tile looks super gross.  The white sink is waaaay too small for how many pots and pans we have to wash by hand, and the faucet doesn't have a sprayer head.

Because it is a temporary kitchen, I will be getting a simple formica (what is the generic word for that?!) countertop in a plain color that will go with the cabinets.  I think we can get that for around 200 euros.  I  would get a nice faucet because I can always use that later when we build the new kitchen.  In the new kitchen I will most likely get a big, stone sink, so for now I'll get a nice simple stainless steel one from IKEA or the local diy store.

It feels good to get projects done!
