During Christmas break we decided to drive over to Italy to see this town that our friends French for a While like so much.
By the church there was a fire burning, though I'm not sure why. But there were two little old ladies enjoying the fire, and a little boy (bottom left corner of this photo) that seemed happy to keep the burning by brining palettes of wood over from a big pile that was sitting just off the square.

The boy dragged this palette over to throw on the fire, when Abby, who was facing him, screamed! It scared him (and us, too) and he dropped the palette just before it fell on the flames. . .
It turned out she saw a lizard on the palette! She didn't want him to drop the little guy in the fire, which is when she screamed. Sam screamed and jumped backwards because 1) It scared him at first because he didn't know what was going on and 2) He didn't want to squash the lizard!

Everyone was curious . . .

And Dave picked him up so we could get a better look.

But then things just got downright weird when I caught Dave kissing the lizard. It's all fun and games until a lizard bites your lip!

Sam was trying to convince us to bring the lizard home, so we carried him from by the church, across the bridge and were headed to the car when we saw this group of boys.

Dave took the lizard over to them and said, "Come here, look at this lizard!" in French. The came over and were oo'ing and aah-ing as the lizard tried to escape. They asked us in Italian where we found it (we actually understood!) and we pointed back and told him by the church. Then he said something like " blah blitty blah blah magico" and Dave said, "No, I don't think it's magic."
And we all laughed as we walked back to the car, because Dave is funny and I was really glad that lizard wasn't coming back to France!
(more about dolceaqua later!)
