Happiness

Today when I woke up at precisely 8:16 because my bladder won't let me sleep longer than 8 hours at a time, I decided I would take advantage of the fact I didn't have to taxi anyone anywhere and headed to the gym for "Body Balance". That's "Bod-dee Ba-lahnce" in French.

The teacher, Perla, is a striking beauty with a mane of long, dark hair. She always sweeps it up in high pony tail which highlights her elegant neck as she trots around the classroom. She is a dancer by nature, so she walks with perfect posture and makes lovely gestures with her hands when she talks. As people prepare their mats and towels at the start of the course, she looks around to see if anyone is new.

Today a usual attendee had brought her niece with her. "And what's your name?" Perla asked. She has a scary good memory and calls people by their name during class when they're doing something wrong.

 "L'oeil" the girl replied.

"Pardon?" Perla asked, and she wasn't the only one that wanted to hear that again.

"L'oeil" she replied once again, to which Perla promptly asked "What is that! Eye? Your name is eye? Where does that come from?"

"Loye" the girl then explained "is Vietnamese. It means Bonheur . . . happiness."

"Oh, that's beautiful!  I like that.  I'm going to call you Bonheur.  My name is Perla . . . that means Pearl."  And she threw her head back and laughed, whipping her long ponytail around in her giddiness.  "That's nice, too!"
